Psychics’ Explanations
Some people die unexpectedly and don’t realize they are dead. They wander around in a dimly-lit area, not knowing what to do. This kind of situation often happens after natural disasters, plane crashes, terrorist attacks, etc. Angels can tap them on the shoulder, turn them around, and show them a light. If they follow the light, they can move towards the afterlife. In addition, some Intuitives can locate these confused souls and encourage them to look for the light.
Some people know they are dead, but can’t accept that fact. They are in denial. They didn’t believe they would die, and they are not ready to follow the light. They want a moment to consider what happened. They need to adjust to a new reality. They wait until they are ready to take their next step.
Some people who know they are dead, don’t know where to go or what to do. It never occurred to them that there was an afterlife. Perhaps their religion never mentioned life after death. They need a little time to compose themselves. They “sit” and wait until they are ready to see what comes next.
Some people don’t want to go to Heaven. They don’t think they deserve it. Or they don’t know what it is and they are afraid of what they don’t know. They might think that following the light is a trick which will land them in Hell. They feel safer doing nothing than moving forward.
Religious Concepts
Beyond these metaphysical explanations for a waiting area, there are religious tenants and names. Some religions call this area “Purgatory.” It isn’t a place of punishment, but a place for purging old thoughts and energies. A place to release ties to Earth. A place for cleansing before moving forward.
Some religions call it “Sheol,” a waiting place. This word may mean the place where all souls go after death, or it might mean something darker.
Some religions say there is a waiting place for souls after death and before human resurrection. They say that all humans will eventually be brought back to life in their former physical bodies. Until then, they need to rest.
The New Testament also refers to "Hades," a place for forgetfulness.
Near Death Experiences
A few people have told me about Near-Death Experiences in which they were in waiting rooms. They stayed there until they were told they needed to return to Earth. Literally, a life or death decision had to be made. This kind of waiting room has limited light; not too bright, not too dark.
These folks returned to physical bodies. Their experience gives us one more clue as to what happens after death.
I hope you found these explanations helpful.
