What we focus on, expands. How lovely to have a day devoted to gratitude and remembering all the good things in our lives.

My family has much to celebrate this season. Two medical tests came back with good results. One of our daughters moved into a new house. Our other daughter is doing quite well. Lots of “Wild Girl!” artwork is selling at the Southern Arizona Arts Guild (SAAG) Gallery. We are basically healthy and happy, with a few minor glitches.

I hope you and your family are also well, and that you enjoy Thanksgiving.

If anyone wants to visit with me this weekend, I’ll be at the SAAG Gallery in LaEncantada on Friday (Black Friday!) From 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. Most years, I hide in my house on Black Friday. This year, I’ll be cashiering at the Gallery. Wish me luck!

Sunday, I’ll be set up at the Mystic Messengers Psychic Fair at the DoubleTree Inn on South Alvernon Way, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Ah, the Psychic Fair. You never know what good things might happen down there. :)

Last week’s blog post was a reminder to make certain that our information sources are good ones. I pointed out that people who have crossed to the other side may not be reliable sources of advice. In response to that blog, I heard from a couple of people who told me that some souls on the other side ARE good sources of advice. We just have to understand who we are talking to.

One psychic had two comments which impressed me. She noted that some dead relatives can see a broader perspective of our life than we can see. Those souls CAN give good advice.

She also told me that she is able to contact people who are alive, as well as people who have passed. When she puts out a call for ideas and someone comes forward, she doesn’t always know whether that soul is in a body or not. It’s irrelevant. Good advice is good advice.

My own experience with contacting the dead has been mixed. Sometimes the references are vague, but make sense. A psychic will say, “There is a large table of food. A family celebration.” I can confirm that I shared many family celebrations with the person I think we are contacting.

Other times, there have been references I couldn’t place, such as a toaster and cotton candy.

Sometimes, the references are perfect. A psychic once contacted my father and he mentioned a belt buck I had given to him. I didn’t remember the belt buckle but I found it, years later, when sorting through my mother’s things.

You might remember that a few months ago I wrote a blog about my mother’s family. A psychic had contacted my grandmother and heard that the family had not been as impoverished as I had thought. Later, I discovered photos showing more affluence than I had understood.

Sometimes, the readings are full of love. There is a special feeling, like an atmosphere enveloping the psychic and myself, when the Medium taps into someone who loves me.

One time, we contacted my old boss and he was as funny from the afterlife as he had been in physical life. He told me what he thought, and we had a hearty laugh.

What about advice? Have I received tips from the deceased? I don’t know that I’ve ever asked for recommendations from them. I tend to think that Spirit Guides have advice. I contact deceased friends and relatives to find out how they are doing, and to hope they provide references I can identify so that I know that souls survive the death of the body.* I also ask them for explanations of why things happened the way they happened.

For advice, I turn to Spirit Guides. Sometimes I get it. However, Guides don’t always want to provide suggestions. They want us to make our own choices. Once we have decided what to do, they find ways to support our path.

Where has good advice come from? I’m not sure. One psychic gave me really good input on buying a house and on raising my children. I appreciated that!

The deeper I explore this world of psychics, readings, and messages, the better I understand the nuances.

In my meditations, I often ask my Spirit Guides, angels, and Higher Self what I should do. Should I do this? Should I do that? I don’t often get answers about life path, but sometimes I'll get ideas about how to deal with specific situations.

I have also spoken to psychics and asked them to bring messages from my Guides and angels regarding what I should do. “Should I write another book?” “Should I take a trip?” Years ago, I asked: “Should I get another job?” Some psychics shared mild insights. Other psychics would ask questions like, “Do you want another job?”

I don’t remember many answers regarding things I SHOULD do.

What I have heard time and time again is that those on The Other Side support our efforts. WE have to decide what to do. Once we have made a decision, the energy can come in and support us. Guides and angels will not tell us what to do. We determine our fate, then they aid our journey.

I have also heard from psychics that is important to think twice about where information comes from. If they tap into a recently-departed loved one, that person might give us advice, but it might be a suggestion from their Earthly perspective. It might be the same kind of advice they gave us when they were alive. Better insights come from Guides, angels, and loved ones who have fully transitioned on The Other Side.

A couple of months ago, I was talking with Richard Schickel at the Psychic Fair. Richard is a reader, but we weren’t having a reading. We were just chatting about our lives. Suddenly, he suggested that I get out of the house more. Perhaps I could go the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and play Mah Jongg? I could meet women like myself. It would be good for me.

Huh?

I am neither a card player nor a game player. Games have never interested me. And, the JCC is a long way from where I live. I would never think to go there to play games.

Afterwards, I realized that he must have unknowingly channeled a message from my mother. “Go the JCC and play Mah Jongg,” is exactly what she would have told me. She was a big Mah Jongg player. Her goal was to have me do the kinds of things she did; to follow in her footsteps. I was not interested in games when she was alive, and I’m still not interested.

Years ago, Aitreyia commented:

“I always say, ‘I don’t want dead Uncle Fred guiding me.’ Dead aunts and uncles are great, but if they haven’t cleaned themselves up after crossing over, they are going to give you what they think you need to hear. If you’ve had a bad day, they’ll say, ‘Let’s have a drink.’ On the other hand, an angel might suggest you look at the day, see what you learned from it, and think about what you might do differently the next time. You get totally different guidance from dead relatives than you might get from angels or Master Spirit Guides. I talk with all of them. Some grandmas can be very opinionated. I’ll relay the messages, but sometimes the Guides have to pull these people back because they are so opinionated and what they are bringing forth is not useful to the client.”

I also had a reading with a pet psychic, Kat Riegel, regarding my dog, Maggie. At the time, Maggie was alive. Kat talked to Maggie and relayed fascinating messages. However, I am not certain that Maggie understood her situation. The messages were about what Maggie thought was going on, but they didn't fully reflect her level of illness. Maggie just didn't know. 

The point is to be careful about accepting advice. When we tune into our Guides, angels, and  Higher Self, we get recommendations and support which can further our lives. When we tune into others, their opinions might not be pertinent. It’s what they want to say, not what we need to hear.

If you are having a psychic reading and get strong advice about an issue, think about that recommendation. Make sure it is from a higher source. Remember that your Guides will make suggestions, not demands.

We choose our direction. It’s not easy to be responsible for our lives, yet we need to do it. Once we make our choices, those on The Other Side will be happy to support us.

It’s been a mixed month around here. Vee passed, our dog passed, my husband doesn’t feel well, and my back hurts. Yet my sales have increased at the Psychic Fair and at the Gallery, my daughter has a new house, and I have gotten more restful sleep (because my dog isn’t waking me up two or three times a night). Mixed blessings.

Some things go poorly, then other things go well. Sometimes, we need a hand, sometimes we need to be a helping hand, and sometimes Spirit comes through to help us.

Our dog, Maggie, is an example of how a life can turn around. She was born into poverty. She was in a tight situation. She was abandoned, ended up at the pound, and was adopted into our family of plenty. Plenty of love, plenty of food, plenty of the kind of care which extended her life for years. Lives turn around. Situations change. For Maggie, it wasn’t anything that she did to change her situation, but an outside force, our family, which rescued her. She was one of the lucky ones.

Do outer forces rescue us too? Do friends show up when we need them? Does the Universe have our back?

We all have setbacks, yet we keep putting one foot in front of the other. We rebound for as long as we can. When we need support, we can ask our angels, Spirit Guides, and supportive souls on the other side to help us out.  

Sometimes, we need a helping hand and sometimes we need to be that helping hand to others.

Sometimes, the Universe reaches out to support us.

If you get a chance, in this month of Thanksgiving, provide a helping hand to someone in need. And if you need a bit of assistance, reach out for that too.
