The Truth about Ghosts

Most of the time, people who die see a light, see friends, and pass through a tunnel to The Other Side. There, they review their life, rest, assess where they are and where they want to go, then can choose whether or not to reincarnate.

Some of the time, people who die are afraid to go through this process and cross to The Other Side. They may fear where they are going, or they may fear that there is no where to go, so they stay where they are – in a space between physical life and what we might call “Heaven.”

In some cases, people who die would like to cross to The Other Side, but they remain attached to Earth because they miss their friends and family, or feel that they are protecting their friends and family. Sometimes, they find they can’t move on because their loved ones miss them so much, and grieve their loss so terribly, that the grief binds them to Earth.

Other souls don’t want to cross to the other side. They remain attached to Earth because they are addicted to food, sex, or other earthly pleasures; or prefer revenge on the living over bliss on The Other Side.

Everything works on a continuum. From what I have heard from psychics, it sounds like there are four general categories of souls after death: (1) souls which prefer to remain attached to Earth, (2) souls which are confused, afraid, in shock, or not sure what to do, so they hang out on the Earthly plane, not knowing where to go; (3) souls which choose to stay in a holding area, like a waiting room, not quite ready to enter The Other Side, and (4) souls which move to The Other Side.

Souls which remain attached to Earth are considered to be ghosts.

Dany Michaels, an Angel Communicator, explained that there are two kinds of ghosts. Some ghosts have energy and can manipulate things. They have a personality. Others are just residual energy, telling the same story over and over.

He went on to tell me that once ghosts know you can see them, they come to you. In some cases, they want help moving on. Dany can call in angels and help these souls move to The Other Side. He added, “Most of the ghosts I have encountered who need help moving on, have  fear. They don’t know what is next, or what is happening. They don’t want to move on because they think there is oblivion.”

Dany went on, “Other times, it’s an ego thing. They want to be seen and acknowledged. If you go to someone’s house and there is a spirit there, sometimes they will make the lights flicker. ‘Hey, I’m here! I know you can see me. Look at me.’ They are not going to leave you alone. It’s not something you can turn off.”

Dany told me this story:

“One of the scary ones was in the middle of the night. I woke up and I looked towards the door in my room. There was a little girl standing there. Very well dressed. She had a headband. I was just waking up and I said, ‘No, not right now. If you need help, come later when I am awake.’ I rolled over in my bed, opened my eyes, and she was face-to-face with me. ‘No! Not right now.’ She wanted assistance with being in the spirit world. She didn’t have a lot of spirits around her who would help her. There were angels to help her cross, but she didn’t want to cross. She wanted to remain in the ghost realm.”

Ghost have a choice.

Dany added, “Some ghosts want to hug you. It’s nothing dark or evil. Sometimes there’s a great love connection, but you don’t know who they are.”

People with psychic abilities can assist with many of these situations. If there is a ghost in a house, psychics can help that ghost to leave so the residents can live in peace. If there is a ghost which wants help moving to the Light, psychics can call in angels and other spirits to assist in their transition. Once the souls have crossed to The Other Side, Mediums can contact them and facilitate their communication with people who are still in the physical world.

 Dany’s Most-Recent Ghost Story

I asked Dany Michaels, “Have you seen a ghost?”

He replied, “Oh yeah, all the time. I’ll tell you about the most-recent one.”

“Once spirits know you see them, they come to you for help. I see a lot of them in my house.

“One night, I was walking down the hall and my bathroom door was open. I went through to the kitchen. Nothing was in the bathroom.

“As I was coming back to my room, there was a little girl. A spirit can make itself look like anything it wants. This little girl was on the ground, dirty, wet. It looked like she had been through a storm. She was crying, but I couldn’t see her face.

“I got a little scared. When I looked back, she wasn’t there anymore. I went into my room and she began communicating with me. She needed help moving on.

“I called upon my angels. They came through and helped her move on. She had been lost for a while. I don’t know how she died, but it was scary to see how she looked – it was intense.”

At September’s Psychic Fair, I asked the psychics to share their ghost stories. These stories aren’t scary. In fact, it’s amazing how run-of-the-mill they are. Here are two stories from two psychics:

Margarita’s Ghost Story

“I have heard pounding on the wall just before someone dies.

“I have many, many animals. One day, I was minding my own business. All of the sudden, on the wall *bang, bang, bang.* The cats scattered. Normally, they are cool with noises. I wondered, ‘WTF?’ I checked outside; nothing. About two hours later, my mother called. A relative had died. I’ve noticed that just before a relative dies, I hear ‘boom, boom, boom.’

“This banging has happened with two aunts, a grandma, and several cousins.

“I think it’s a heads up to let me know that they are knocking on heaven’s door. I don’t know who has passed, until I receive a phone call.”

Another Story from Margarita

“When my mother died, I had a very weird weekend. I was out of Tucson, near Prescott. My nephew called and asked if I had heard from my mother. Then, I had a weird feeling of cold on my face. I said, ‘Whatever you are, leave me alone.’

“Later, I heard that my uncle had found my mother on the floor. He had called the paramedics. She had been resuscitated, taken to the ER, then admitted to the ICU.

“I sent out a ‘ping’ and it just kept going. I knew she was gone. When someone is alive, that ping hits and I get a reflection back. It’s like sonar.

“If the soul is still present, the ping returns. If it’s not, the ping keeps going. My mother’s body was being kept alive artificially, but her soul had left.

“Four hours later, my brother called to say she was gone.”

Vee’s Ghost Story

“My friends owned properties in California and they told me that some of the properties had ghosts. The cleaning people in one of the hotels talked about the ghosts. My friends were excited to see what I could find out.

“Whenever my friends went to the penthouse, they would have angry arguments. So, I went to the penthouse and I asked the manager to open the door. As I approached the door, I felt a punch in the solar plexus. Hard. It was like, ‘Stop!’ I felt like I had walked into something, even though it wasn’t there. The punch was so hard that the manager who was behind me, nearly crashed into me.

“There was a very strong, female spirit.

“I kicked the manager out. I told him I needed to have a conversation with this lady. I found out that she was the matriarch of the group. She had died in a fire at that location. She was still there because she thought she was protecting her family. I told her that her family was gone. The people who were there now, were not her family. I told her that she had to respect that fact and let them be.

“The pain from that ‘stop’ sign hurt for the next eight hours. It hurt the entire day. It was that strong. That was the most physical a spirit has been towards me.

“The woman thought she was protecting her family. When I told her that her family was gone and that she had to go and not affect this family, she left.

‘Later, my friends confirmed that a woman had died in a fire.”

Another Story from Vee

“My friends also had an apartment building, but they couldn’t rent out one of the apartments. Turns out, there was a ghost in the apartment. I tuned into him. He was mad because my friend’s mother had not acknowledged him when he had died. He had kept the space.

“This guy was like a maintenance person who had worked for my friend’s mom. I felt that he had died his chair, even though the apartment had been emptied out. I saw a recliner and I saw a TV table with the TV. He had died alone.

“He was mad. He wasn’t going to leave because no one had acknowledged him.

“I asked if it was okay to do a ceremony for him. He said, ‘Sure.’ We were by the beach in San Francisco. My Guides said to get a pinecone, a stone, a feather, and a seashell. I found them all. I went to the ocean and I thanked this guy for all the kind things he had done and for all the wonderful things he had done for the family. His selflessness. Spirit had me throw the stone, throw the seashell, float the feather, and throw the pinecone.

“After the ceremony, the ghost left. Less than a month later, my friends were able to rent out the apartment for the first time in years.

“Later, my friends confirmed that this guy had worked for the family. He had died alone. It freaked me out.”

Kat’s Ghost Story

My ghost story has to do with an animal.

A woman invited me to her home to read her two cats and her dog. While I was talking to the animals which were living and present, I kept seeing movement out of the corner of my eye. Every time I looked towards the huge fireplace, I expected to see a very fluffy, Persian-style cat; but when I would look, nothing was there. Finally, the woman asked why I kept looking at the fireplace. I said, “There is a grey cat over there who keeps calling my attention.” She replied, “Oh! That cat passed two months ago.”

The cat was still there. Still wanting to say hi. Still wanting to be part of the reading.

I think the cat missed the family. A lot of times, the energy of our animals, once they have passed over, stays at the house. They are trying to figure out if their people are okay. They are not certain if they should move on. Sometimes, they become Guides or spirits to help the other animals or people in the house. Sometimes, they aren’t sure what they are going to do, so they hang out for a while. It’s a nice place.

It’s October! Time for TRUE Ghost Stories from the psychics. It’s funny to ask the psychics about ghosts. They usually tell their stories as if they are no big deal. They see ghosts all the time – la dee dah. For the rest us, seeing a ghost would be a shock.

Here are three short ghost stories from psychics:

Vee’s Ghost Story (She told me this story in September, shortly before she passed.)

“When I was a kid, we would drive by graveyards and I would wave and say, ‘Hello.’ It wasn’t until decades later that I told my parents I was psychic. It wasn’t a big deal to them. I asked what gave them a clue I was psychic, but they wouldn’t tell me. Finally, I asked my sister and she said, ‘When we would drive past graveyards, you would wave and say hello.’ I remembered that I would whisper, ‘Hi. Hi.’ I saw them.

“I saw spirits. I saw girls. I saw boys. Those who passed were standing by their tombstones.”

I commented, “They say the spirit moves on. It doesn’t stay in the cemetery.”

Vee responded, “It depends on the spirit and what is going on. Some living people won’t let their spiritual families go. They grieve and they want to keep them around. We need to help that spirit transition so that the living person will live with the memory, instead of holding on to the spirit.”

Kaci’s Ghost Story

“I did a house clearing not too long ago. The woman who lived there, and her daughter, were both Mediums, but they had no idea that they were Mediums. They didn’t realize they could talk to ghosts and that that was what was happening. The daughter communicated in an empathic way. Her skin was burning because she was affected by a ghost which was living in her room. She couldn’t even go to school. Her bedroom used to be her sanctuary and she couldn’t go in it anymore.

“I took this huge crystal (see photo above) and put it in her bedroom. This clear crystal began to turn dark, just sitting in her room absorbing negative energy.

“I sat in that room and said, ‘We need to talk.’ I heard, clear as day, ‘My brother.’ It was as if there was a kid sitting right next to me, telling me, ‘My brother.’ I found out that the house used to be an orphanage. One of the kids had been hit by a car and died. I think this was the sister looking for the brother who had been killed. I feel like they were both ghosts. The sister was stuck behind.

“I said, ‘You can’t find him here, thank you so much. Good-bye.’ Then I cleared the house. I used sage and patchouli. It took a lot. It worked. It cleansed the house to a neutral energy, but they will have to cleanse it regularly.

“I cleared the backyard and marked crosses with holy wood. I could feel a vortex in the middle of the house. I gave them selenite to plant on the corners of the house and inside the house, to help.

“I tried to seal the vortex. The biggest thing is to avoid the area near the closet.”

Richard’s Ghost Story

“One evening, we were eating dinner at El Corralle restaurant. The guy at a nearby table slumped over. He was clearly dead. People kept working on him, but he was dead. What a perfect way to go. Big meal. Don’t even need to pay the check.

“I saw him leave. He just rose up, looked around, then pfft! I think he knew he might have had a heart thing. It’s cool to be ready.”

It’s mid-October and time to share some TRUE ghost stories. Today’s story comes from a blog reader:

Dear Gail,

Several years ago I was the music director at an old church in upstate New York. I went into the church one Thursday evening a half hour before choir rehearsal. There, sitting in the front row, was a woman dressed in long skirts and a bonnet. It lasted only a couple of seconds, but I will never forget it.

On September 27, 2019, Vee (a reader at the Mystic Messengers Psychic Fair) passed away. It was a shock to us. Early in September, she had been reading at the Fair, like usual, nothing amiss. She was in her mid-fifties; too young to pass. We don’t know the cause of death.

Today, I would like to thank Vee for her work by sharing a few things.

A story from Vee

Out of my Mind

Earlier this year, I asked Vee how she figured out she was psychic. She told me that she hadn’t realized she was psychic until someone told her that was the case. Until then, she had thought she crazy.

Vee said:

“I thought I was mentally ill. I dressed up in a business suit, packed my bags, and went to a mental institution. I said, ‘I’m crazy.’ They said, ‘You’re not crazy because you dressed yourself. We deal with people who have forgotten how to tie their shoes.’ I appreciated hearing that I wasn’t crazy, but wondered why I kept hearing male voices. I studied things like schizophrenia because I thought that’s what I had.

“One day, a co-worker and I were at a conference and she brought up the topic of psychics. She told me that she was psychic. Then, this woman told me that I was psychic. I told her she was crazy. She started explaining her gifts. My jaw dropped. ‘Is that what that’s called?!’ ‘Is that what I do?’

“She introduced me to my first psychic gig. She was the lead psychic at this place. I took a picture of my space because I wanted to document it. I knew it would never happen again – boy was I wrong!

“I read 11 people that day. I went home – it was an hour away. Someone asked if I did readings over the phone. I had no idea, but I said, ‘Sure, I do.’ I was right. I started reading over the phone. Within a month, I was national. Someone would call someone who would call someone. Checks arrived in the mail. That’s how it started.

“I was invited to do psychic fairs. One was a traveling show over the weekend – Saturday and Sunday. It was serious; maybe 50 psychics. I would do something, then run to someone who would tell me what it was called. I wrote it down. That’s how I discovered I could do psychometry, and that I was clairvoyant and clairaudient.”

Vee wasn’t crazy. She was gifted.

Something I learned from Vee

When I set up merchandise at a fair, and when I pack up merchandise, every item is placed in a specific location, in a specific way, so I can locate it as needed. Often, when I was rolling boxes in or out, or when I was packing up, Vee would ask if she could help. I would smile and say, “No. I’ve got it.” Vee suggested that when I said “No,” it cut off the energy flow. Instead, I should say, “Maybe next time.” She said that I needed to allow people to help me, to give to me, to complete the energy circuit. I gave to others and needed to accept help as well.

Several things I heard about Vee’s passing

At Sunday’s Fair, several psychics shared their impressions from Vee since her passing. I’ll share the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

One psychic said that Vee was angry about her passing because it had taken her by surprise, “What the heck just happened?” One day she was fine; the next day she found herself on the other side.

A second psychic shared that Vee was very happy. Vee felt that she could do more good from the other side than she had been able to do from this side. Energy crosses the Veil. We can send our good thoughts to Vee and she can send positive energy to us.

Someone else told me that when we assembled for our pre-fair circle, they saw Vee dancing around the group. She was joyful.

A fourth psychic told me that Vee took responsibility for her passing. Vee had known something was wrong, but had chosen not to see a doctor. In making that choice, Vee had taken responsibility for her passing.

I found this particularly interesting: One psychic reader who usually sits across the room from Vee told me that at September’s Fair, Vee’s aura had been blinking on and off. The reader would look at Vee and everything would seem fine. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she would see Vee’s aura flicker, then reset. The reader had known something was going on, but hadn’t known what might happen.

During Sunday’s Fair, one of the psychics sat with me at my table. We talked about Vee and we felt her presence. I had so many goose bumps. It felt like a good energy flowing through my body. I feel goose bumps now, just thinking about it.

Vee channelled information. She would write a client’s name forwards, then backwards, and information would flow to her. Vee has done several readings for me, and I appreciate every one of them.

I will miss Vee at the Fairs, and I will hold on to her good advice and the information she channeled for me. I know she is fine and I am grateful to have spent time with her. This is true for Vee and for all the readers at the Fair. Amazing things happen when we talk about the important, deep, subjects in our lives.

A friend shared this, “When something hurts, like a skin cut or an ankle twist, instead of focusing on the pain, I say, ‘This is what healing feels like.’ Turns my thoughts around.”

Today, we have the pleasure of a blog post written by a professional psychic. In this post, she describes how she experiences psychic communication.

This woman goes by the title, “The Operator,” because she has a direct line to The Other Side. Here’s the post:                       


In the early days of receiving communications from people I couldn't see, I frequently telephoned a friend who is a mental health professional. Many times, we had the same conversation: I told her what had happened to me, she asked me some probing questions about it, and then she told me it didn't sound like mental illness to her. I found this greatly relieving. It gave me the confidence to go forward and continue to develop my skills. In our last conversation like this, my friend gave me the criteria I needed to diagnose myself in the future.  She said, "If it's not causing you distress, it's optional for you, and it doesn't interfere with other things you'd like to be doing, I think it's fine."

Psychic communications have always been optional for me. I'm not the person who stands in her kitchen with a dreamy look and says to the dishwasher repair man squatting on the floor, "Has your grandfather passed away? He's here with a message for you." If I'm not working, I won't accept messages for other people. I tell any spirits who arrive that I'm not interested because I'm not working. If a spirit has arrived to communicate with me, specifically, I ask why.  If I think their motive is selfish or destructive, I say, “No, go away.” My mental health is important to me. While having psychic abilities is fun, I'm not willing to let them interfere with my life.

Part of making sure that psychic communication stays controllable is being aware of the difference between psychic input and other input. The two are different, but unless you pay close attention, you might confuse them.

In my experience, psychic information goes immediately to memory. Here's what I mean by this.  Imagine receiving a sudden, unexpected blow to the nose. The first awareness you have is the feeling of impact on your nose. This lasts for a fraction of a second. After the initial impact, you have a powerful memory of the impact. Even though that first moment is over, the blow still seems to ring through your whole being. There's pain in your nose, yes, but the memory of the blow itself is also still an intense sensation. This intense sensation of the blow exists only in your memory. Your memory asks, “Why did this happen?” “How did this happen?” Your memory tries to trace what happened before the blow to cause it. “Did I run into something?” “Was there somebody who wanted to hit me?” These thoughts are going on independently of the current sensation of pain in your nose.

I find that the part of my mind that processes the memory of something is the same part that receives psychic communications. If, for some reason, the spirit you're having me contact wants to give you the idea of a powerful blow to the nose, I'm going to have all the same memory experiences that I would have if it happened to me. Quite suddenly, I'll be hit with a memory of an intense blow to the nose. I'll wonder how it happened and frantically retrace the moments beforehand. I'll feel a tremendous amount of focus on my nose, mimicking the experience of processing ongoing pain in the nose. In other words, I'll have every part of the experience except for the actual, physical sensations of the initial blow and pain in my nose.

Of course, most psychic communication isn't this intense; usually, it's something gentler. For example, in my early days of reading professionally, one spirit wanted to communicate something to a client which was symbolized by the rear view of a grand house with a beautiful in-ground pool. I have my eyes closed when I'm reading for someone, so I obviously wasn't seeing the house with my actual eyes, overlaid on the client's face. Instead, in my mind, I suddenly had a memory of having seen this beautiful house and pool that I had never seen in real life. The feeling was of having seen it only a split-second earlier. The spirit giving me the image felt it was important and so gave it to me over and over again, which came through as memory after memory after memory of the same view of the same house, throughout the reading. I was grateful for the repeated communication, both because it made clear how important the image was to the spirit and because it gave me a refined opportunity to observe this sudden arrival of an image in my memory.

Now that I know for certain how it feels to have a piece of information arrive suddenly in my memory, I will never mistake a psychic communication for something that has actually happened to me. I also know that I'm not hallucinating, because my eyes and ears didn't register the input.

When an image, a sound, or a feeling suddenly arrives in my memory, I can choose whether to pay attention to it or not. This is my life, right here and right now, so I choose where my thoughts go. If I'm reading for someone, I scrutinize the input carefully and relay it to the client.  When I'm off, I say, “No, thank you.” If the input is from someone who wants to talk to me, specifically, I either stop what I'm doing and pay attention or say I'll talk to them later. When it's a better time to talk, I say, “Okay, what would you like to communicate?” I know the input that then arrives in my memory is not my own but from elsewhere.

Awareness of how psychic communication arrives makes my psychic abilities a pleasure rather than any sort of burden. It keeps me from worrying about my mental health and enables me to relay messages to clients with confidence.

In 1988, my husband and I bought a home in northwest Tucson. We loved that house. It’s where our babies grew up. Eight years later, we needed a larger home so we left our first house and bought a second one.

We kept in touch with one of our neighbors and were disheartened to hear that our old house was not being treated well. Perhaps drug dealers had moved in? Party people? The house sold several more times. I don’t know the whole story, but our cute home was not being cared for.

In February 2018, I was talking about houses with Karreen Martin at the Psychic Fair. I told her how much we had loved that first house and that I wished for new owners who would love it too.

Karreen said, “With a pendulum, you can clear it. Picture the house. The energy is zero. She asked, ‘Do you feel loved at this time?’ Zero.”

She went on, working with her pendulum, “Let’s clear all beliefs, all lies. I do it just like a soul. I do it from the bottom to the top, left to right, inside and out, top to bottom. What we are going to ask is that whoever moves in from this day forward love it, and value it. That it feels loved, valued, and worshiped. Clear the neighborhood. Any disagreements. Clear all toxic streams, all entities, all portals, sealing them with white light. Now I ask the house, ‘What is your energy?” “100%.’ Which is what it needs.”

She checked the energy of the people in the home, saying that anything can be cleared.

I am so happy to report that we drove by the home last weekend and it looks good! A new set of owners had painted and decorated the house. Someone added a garage and a steel roof. It looks loved!
