I inherited a ring from my mother-in-law. It’s beautiful, but I don’t know what type of stone it holds. It is either a fairly common citrine, or it is a rare Imperial Topaz. I like to think it’s an exquisite topaz. If it’s pretty, does it make a difference what the stone is? In some ways, yes. I enjoy wearing a beautiful citrine ring, but I feel extra-special wearing an Imperial Topaz. It’s the same ring! I laugh at myself, at my human-ness.

Synthetic stones and naturally-mined stones are exactly the same physical composition, yet we value the natural stones more highly. I have a ruby ring, but I’m not certain if it is completely natural or if it is a composite. Either way, it’s lovely . . . but I want to know what it is!

With gemstones, if we are willing to pay for an appraisal, we can certify authenticity and value. In the psychic/spiritual realm, confirmation isn’t as easy. Confirmation relies on our feelings, and on our reactions to the pieces of information coming through psychics. Can we corroborate the messages about our past, our personality, and/or our friends? Can we listen to the messages from a Medium and affirm that the messages are from our people who have passed?

We wrangle with the inability to know for sure. We search for Confirmation.

Being human is a joy and a challenge. We can believe whatever we want to believe but, underneath, facts remain. A stone is either a citrine or a topaz. The afterlife exists or it doesn’t. Some things are easy to substantiate, others take a while.

The jewelry – Why do we care if the stone is real or not? Who cares what type of ruby it is? We care because these things are a reflection of how we think about ourselves: Did I get a good deal? Am I wearing a RUBY? Was I scammed? Am I a chump?

The psychics – Do they really have a strong connection to unseen worlds? Did I actually get such helpful information for so little money? Did I pay too much for a reading? Was I scammed?

I have been fortunate to have had enough psychic readings in my life to know that a connection to the other side exists. This stuff could not have been fabricated. I have also had my own experiences of knowing things I should not have been able to know. Confirmation.

You have to find a jeweler who you trust and you have to find a psychic who you trust too.

Thanks for your post and thoughts and experiences about confirmation. It has certainly got me thinking. As a psychic medium and long-time jeweler and gemologist I know what you're talking about. The times when I have brought information to a client and they can be certain it is genuine are a blessing to both of us. Believing can be easy, relatively speaking. Without some sort of first person experience Knowing can be very elusive. A few years ago I stumbled upon teaching people to bend spoons - not as proof of the afterlife, rather proof that we are energy, connected and capable of much more than what our 3d bodies and minds imagine. It's helped me - tangible proof with the spoon experience and then I extrapolate from there.
On the gemstone front I wanted to comment that although the minerals used to create a synthetic version of say, a ruby are identical - I think that the actual forming, the specific environment as a crystal of ruby would come together from a molten stew, along with slight imperfections and tiny bits of other minerals all affect the end result. Do stones have consciousness? Would it be different "growing up" in a clinical, controlled environment as one single crystal at a time
than starting life as a molten ooze - in oneness you could say with all the other minerals and elements present - and individuating as a single crystal or a cluster as the conditions become just right.? Sorry that was an awfully long sentence. I feel like I'm downloading this as I go. I hope it is useful or food for thought for you and your other readers.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. You brought up an interesting question: Do stones have consciousness and is it different if they are natural or lab-created? Fascinating to think about. People have told me that a consciousness can go into a stone. I think a stone has its own consciousness too. Hmm . . .

Another question is about the healing properties of natural stones vs. lab-created stones. Will a lab-created kyanite be as protective as a simulated kyanite? I have no idea.

I guess we would have to ask the stones? Or do some muscle testing? I've certainly heard spiritual teachers and channels talk about every cell in our bodies having a consciousness and electrons too.
I've done some very cool visualizations where I would "go into" a crystal and see what I discovered there - if there was an experience or information to receive. Pretty interesting world we live in! Thank you for the space you hold - sharing yourself and others.
