So, today, let’s look at something a little more optimistic. A little more magical. A little closer to home.
We are here for an adventure. We are here to experience the joy, and the trials, of physical life. One of the joys is our ability to create whatever we want. We can take a non-physical idea and turn it into a physical thing, like art, or a novel, or a scientific breakthrough. It’s easy to lay back and be discouraged by the state of the world we see on TV. But, there is more to life than the big picture of whatever makes the news. We are creative energy in a body.
Looking out my window, I see that my neighbor’s saguaro cactus is blooming! So pretty. Large white flowers high atop the peak.
Looking at my Facebook feed, I see birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. People are celebrating milestones. The big, wide, world can be demoralizing, but our more-intimate family and community world can be enriching.
Now, I’m going to tell you a story that I’ve heard from two people. This is a reminder to look for the wonder in life (and death).
Two people told me about their sick, elderly mothers who had passed away. After the deaths, all they seemed to remember was the person being ill, going downhill, then slipping away. They remembered trying to help the person feel better, but not succeeding.
In one case, the deceased mother came to her son in a dream and flashed photographs of the good times they had experienced together. Scenes of parties, health and family. Or, maybe, they were just photos of her in a healthy, happy state. This slide show restored his ability to see his mother as the vibrant woman she had been in life.
The second person also had a dream. After a long illness, her mother had died. All she could think about was how sick her mother had been and how her mother had suffered. One night, her mother came to her in a dream, looking great and carrying a suitcase. Her mother said she was fine. All healed. Make-up on. Hair looked great. My friend asked where she was going, but I don’t think her mother answered. She was off on adventure to another world.
This dream reset the way my friend remembered her mother. After that dream, she was able to see her mother as healthy and vivacious. She never again thought of her mother as being sick.
Dreams. Sometimes they seem so important. Most of the time, we can’t make sense of them. Occasionally, they are life-changing.
My point? Look for a bit of beauty and wonder in your personal world. Whatever you focus on will expand.
