The premise of this book is that we live a series of lifetimes during which we work on different aspects of ourselves and we re-balance our karma from previous lifetimes. Each incarnation provides opportunities for soul growth. Before our birth, we meet with a Council of Guides who helps us plan our life themes.
We have a group of souls, a soul family, with whom we travel through lifetimes. In one life, a soul family member may be our mother. In the next life, that soul may be our cousin, spouse, or coworker.
Souls are born into overlapping lifetimes so they can be around during the same general time period. However, during one soul’s life, other members of the soul family will die and return to The Other Side. Fortunately, even from that side, they can help. They can send energy and, sometimes, they can send people into a person’s life to help with a particular situation. For example, during a rough period, someone on The Other Side can send a counselor or a coach to help. That counselor may not remain in the person’s life for an extended period of time, but can help them through the crisis.
“Memories of the Afterlife” presents case studies of people who have had hypnotherapy sessions to recall previous lifetimes, followed by a hypnotherapy session to explore the time between lives. Practitioners around the world are trained to facilitate these sessions. According to this book, a Life Between Life session can help people see why their lives are the way they are, why they chose certain challenges, and who is in their soul family.
Let’s look at a couple of examples of how this works. (Not all of these stories are from the book.)
1) Soul family members set up situations to further each other’s goals. I spoke with a woman who looked back at her life and realized how often she had been a caregiver for others. Now, her husband had cognitive issues and her caregiving role was becoming more intense. My impression was that this was like a final exam for her. Would she have the inner strength to succeed in this caregiving role?
In order for this woman to work on her caregiving life theme, other members of her soul family had to be willing to take on the role of someone needing care. Before entering this lifetime, the souls had to decide who would learn the most by being the caregiver and who would learn the most by needing to depend on someone else. Then, they had taken on those roles. No one was a pawn in anyone else’s scheme. They were all active players.
2) While on The Other Side and looking at the future challenges of someone else’s life, we may see how we can help them. Selflessly, we say, “Put me in, Coach. I’m willing to help.” We end up with a different kind of life than we might have had if we were thinking only of our own growth. When we have a Life Between Life session, we can see how we chose that role.
3) One member of a soul family might choose to be a narcissist so another person can learn to deal with that situation. Someone might be domineering, cruel, or unsupportive, so that a second person can learn not to depend on their love. The second person learns to be independent, and may spend a lifetime dealing with a series of domineering partners in order to explore that experience. Meanwhile, the narcissist may be learning how cause and effect work.
4) One example in the book spoke of a person with low energy in this lifetime. During the Life Between Lives session, they discovered that in a previous lifetime, they had used their abundance of energy to torture people. This life, they were re-balancing their karma and one element of that situation demanded that they not have much energy. Finally, the person had an explanation for their low level of energy.
If you look at the people who change your life, or challenge you, you might begin to think of them as members of your soul family.
If you look at the challenges you have had over and over, you might discover your life themes.
If you see how you have overcome challenges and situations in this lifetime, you might realize how much you have grown as a soul. Give yourself some credit.
This book provides a fascinating look at the big picture of lives over time. However, the writing is a bit dry. I found I could only read a chapter or two at a time. Then, I had to think about the material. In fact, I’m still reading the book, bit by bit.
Enjoy your week.
