How to Use a Pendulum
Pendulums answer “yes” and “no” questions. Each pendulum uses psycho-kinetic energy to answer these questions. What does that mean? You can connect to your Higher Self or your Spirit Guides, and they will send the vibration of the answer through your body, out of your hand, and through the pendulum to answer your question. The energy coming through your body makes the pendulum move so that you can see your answers clearly. Pendulums connect to your own knowingness or to spiritual guidance. Somewhere you know the answers.
Pendulum use is a form of dowsing.
Beginning to Work with a Pendulum
The first thing to do is sit quietly with your feet on the floor and your arm steadied on a table. Hold your pendulum several inches up the chain so the crystal has room to swing freely. Relax.
Hold the chain between your thumb and forefinger in whichever hand feels most comfortable. If the chain seems too long, wrap it lightly around your index finger.
Then, run your other hand down the length of the pendulum chain, bringing your hand to rest with the bottom tip of the pendulum in your upturned palm. The pendulum should be completely still.
The second step is to make sure that all answers come from your Higher Self, your Spirit Guides, or your angels. Before working with your pendulum, quiet yourself, then say a few words asking that the answers come from the highest and best sources.
The third step is to determine how your pendulum will indicate answers. Pendulums have four basic movements. They can swing forwards and backwards (like a nodding head) or side-to-side. They can swing in clockwise circle or in a counter-clockwise circle.
You can either ask your pendulum how it will show answers to you, or you can tell your pendulum how to show answers to you.
Asking your pendulum how it answers questions
Ask a few questions which you know the answer to and see how the pendulum responds. For example ask, “Is my name Sue?” then see how the pendulum answers “yes,” “no,” or “maybe.” Ask, “Am I a man or a woman?” and see if the pendulum swings in a certain direction, or in a circle to indicate an answer. You may have to do this several times to get in synch with the pendulum.

Programming your pendulum
You can tell your pendulum to swing in a certain way to indicate “yes,” “no,” or “maybe.” Tell it what to do, then ask the same kinds of “yes” or “no” questions until the pendulum lines up with the answers you already know.
Understanding Answers
Ask questions that can be clearly answered “yes” or “no.” Try not to ask for opinions or use the words “should” or “supposed to” in your questions. Ask, “Is it in my best interest to . . . ?”
Remain neutral. Try not to hope for a specific answer. (If you are hoping for an answer, you already know which way to go.)
Then, wait for your pendulum to provide an answer.
When the pendulum swings, you will see the answer. If the pendulum swings with great force, it’s answering loudly. If it swings with a lighter force, this is a quieter, less-committed response.
After each question, clear the pendulum by touching its stone to the palm of your free hand or on another surface.
Selecting a Pendulum
As in all things of a spiritual nature, select whichever pendulum you feel drawn to. Select a pendulum which appeals to you.
Many pendulums are crystals because the crystal enhances the experience. Quartz is a good choice because it is a strong amplifier of energy. Clear quartz is associated with clarity and connecting to a higher purpose. Amethyst creates a strong connection with the spiritual world. Rose quartz adds the element of love.
Afterwards
Keep your pendulum in a safe place to help it maintain your vibration.
It is best not to allow other people to handle your pendulum.
When you need to clear the pendulum’s energy, lay it outside in sunlight or moonlight, or lay it in a bowl of salt.
